Winter is on the horizon here in the Rocky Mountains. With temps dropping below freezing at night its important to get your Aspen home ready for winter now. Here are a few tips to help you prepare.
-Have your heating system inspected and serviced
-Change furnace filters
-Drain sprinklers
-Drain exterior hose bibs and faucets. If you leave the hose bib active during the winter make sure the hose is not left attached to it
-Wrap your trees to prevent deer and other animals from eating the bark
-Clear gutters and downspouts of debris so water can flow freely
-Have your chimney cleaned and inspected
-Adjust and replace weather-stripping on exterior doors
-Have your heat tape / under roof heating system inspected for proper function and don’t forget to turn on the time clocks
-Have your roof inspected
-Change any burnt out bulbs at the exterior of the property
-Replace batteries in smoke and co detectors
-Increase the heating set point on your thermostat to a minimum of 55 degrees and be sure it’s set to heat
-Schedule weekly property checks with your property manager during times of vacancy to protect your property against the unexpected
Trick or Treat:
Remember to take precautions this Halloween to ensure a safe environment for your kids. Check your outdoor lighting for signs of damage or exposed wires. If your lights are damaged, dispose of them. Clear your yard and walkways of tripping hazards and set jack-o-lanterns away from the path of travel, to guard against fire hazards. I recommend using battery operated candles as opposed to the real thing.
